The Story Behind The Home Away Co.
We travel a lot, and anyone who stays in Airbnbs regularly knows the feeling: you walk in, and within about thirty seconds you can tell whether the place was actually thought through, or whether it was just furnished and listed. One feels like someone considered what you'd need. The other doesn't. That difference has stuck with us on every trip we've taken, and it's exactly what we set out to build into our own places.
I've spent my career in hospitality, so guest standards aren't a guess for me, I know what "taken care of" actually feels like, and what it takes behind the scenes to make a stay feel effortless for the person on the other end of it.
Owning and hosting Airbnbs was something we'd wanted to do for a long time, not just as a business, but as a chance to build that same feeling into a space, somewhere guests could walk into and immediately feel like someone had thought of them.
That's what The Home Away Co. is. The Nest, tucked into the coast in York, Maine, and The Hideaway, on the shore of Lake Winnipesaukee, are both built around the same idea: a home away from home should feel considered, not generic.
